A fascinating tour that touches the hills where the famous red wine Ruché D.O.C. is produced.
The route starts from the square in the village of Portacomaro: downhill road and then flat road for about 4 km towards Migliandolo, then turn left towards Scurzolengo. Before starting the climb towards Scurzolengo, turn right on the ascending road to Bricco Gioia (direction Castagnole Monferrato): short climb into the woods with about 800 m of bends, the road is quite narrow (39x20 or 39x22 are recommended , just to warm up). Then you'll find a descent with a series of bends, at the end of the road you'll ride along the old furnace of Castagnole Monferrato and turn right towards Asti: an apparently flat road that gently goes downhill and is quite straight (you can use 53x15 or 53x17). After about 4-5 km, when you are in the locality Valenzani turn left towards Refrancore: a 3 km climb with a gradient of about 12%. You have to ride downhill, uphill, then downhill again. Once arrived in a concentric you must follow the road towards Castagnole Monferrato. After a few km, turn right towards Santo Stefano. The road rises steeply with gradients of about 15-20%: one Km breathtaking ascent. At the top, at the level of a chapel, turn left and you'll find another climb, then ups and downs on the hill, surrounded by an extraordinary view. After about 5 km you'll reach Montemagno.
A spectacular glance of the village will surprise you. Before taking the climb that leads to village of Grana, turn right onto the ring road (very short). At the end of a short descent, turn right again, towards Casorzo; a long descent with bends but not too challenging, surrounded by one of the most beautiful landscapes of Monferrato. There are 4-5 kilometres before reaching Casorzo, with a short but challenging climb. At the traffic lights of Casorzo turn left: ride uphill towards the outskirts of the village, then you'll start the descent to Grazzano. Straight road, narrow bend, another straight road, then you'll start to rise (39x20 or a 53x22) up to Grazzano. You can stop at the fountain of the Square of the Sferisterio (just before that you'll find a very well-stocked bar) and then take the route to Moncalvo, one of the most beautiful panoramic roads of Monferrato. If you want you can turn right to Madonna dei Monti: a 3 km climb to admire, on top of the road, of the stele dedicated to the Italian Marshal Pietro Badoglio (in the village there is also the museum dedicated to him) with a 360 ° breathtaking view over the Monferrato, from Vercelli's paddies aup to the Alps and the Apennines.
Taking the road to Moncalvo, you'll have to face some gentle slopes up to the buttress of the town "Aleramica". Before entering Moncalvo, at the end of a nice downhill road, turn left onto the main road to Calliano. Here caution is recommended, especially on weekdays because of the transit of trucks. These are 4-5 km of dangerous road, the only part of all the itinerary. Here you'll start the descent toward Calliano (direction Asti): 1-2 Km of easy road. But watch out for the traffic. Near Penango you'll find another 2 km of uphill road, which is very wide and easy (you can use the 53). At the top of the road, turn left (crossroads to Montemagno) taking a sort of mini-ring road that cuts off the village of Calliano. Continue to San Desiderio, Scurzolengo, Portacomaro, in a landscape surrounded by the hills.
